Linux System Administrator (m/f/d)

The heidelpay engineering organisation is growing rapidly and is looking for a full-time system administrator for Windows-based IT infrastructure who is interested in helping us to realise and build on the next stage in our product and technology journey. You will need to have a strong understanding of Microsoft infrastructure and client technologies, Microsoft-based systems setup, configuration and administration and know how large-scale Microsoft-based infrastructures and Microsoft client ecosystems are operated.  You will have the ability to administer, construct and support Microsoft-based infrastructure and systems and the ability to provide stellar levels of friendly IT support to our staff that will help enable Heidelpay’s hyperscale growth plans and its unique product innovation roadmap.

What you will do

  • Administer, develop and support our evolving Linux-based IT infrastructure with a focus on the virtual server landscape and cloud services
  • Be a key role in IT projects by supporting the introduction of new enabling infrastructure and technologies as well as the construction of important new systems and infrastructure
  • Support our evolving network infrastructure consisting of firewalls, switches, routers, load balancers, LAN and WLAN components
  • Expansion and continual improvement of our monitoring system and tooling for monitoring hardware, software and critical business applications
  • Support and help us further develop our databases
  • Help us refine and further develop our PCI-DSS controls and participate in PCI-DSS audits
  • Robust patch and software management
  • Support and optimise our IT security
  • Install hardware and software and provision virtual and physical IT equipment
  • Nurture good working relationships with teams and colleagues across engineering and product organisations
  • Work closely with our external service providers and partners
  • Provide system, network and server administration with an eye to enabling improved reliability and scalability through automation
  • Monitor, maintain and troubleshoot the evolving heidelpay system and infrastructure ecosystem with attention to increasingly intelligent, automated and granular monitoring, smart alerting, speedier resolution and continual improvement of system and infrastructure availability, performance and resilience
  • Re-configure, improve and administer systems and infrastructure of businesses that heidelpay has acquired and wishes to integrate into the heidelpay group
  • Create easy to understand and use documentation including procedures, work instructions and tool/technology evaluations
  • The technologies you will work with include Linux, MySQL, MariaDB, Active Directory, DNS/DHCP, AWS, Terraform, Ansible, Packer, Microsoft Exchange Server and the latest Identify & Access Management, Unified Endpoint Management and Threat Management tools
  • You will contribute to the identification, understanding, evaluation and selection of new and emerging Linux distributions, system administration and management technologies, tools, practices and techniques that are aligned to heidelpay’s group-wide architecture and technology selection principles

Your profile

You should have

  • Solid and practical understanding of modern system administration and infrastructure security principles
  • Several years of professional experience in the care of diverse server environments ideally in large growing geographically distributed organisations
  • Deep knowledge of:
    • Linux operating systems
    • Multiple Linux distributions e.g. CentOS, Red Hat, Debian, Suse
    • Multiple database technologies e.g. MySQL, MariaDB, PostgreSQL
    • Nagios
  • Knowledge of configuration automation tools e.g. Ansible, Puppet
  • Strong and practical understanding of network communication, network setup, routing and switching
  • Experience with modern distributed infrastructures (public, private and mixed cloud environments) and tech stacks
  • Sharp focus on end-to-end scripting and automation to avoid all repetitive tasks
  • Preference for cloud-native approaches and tooling
  • Sound technical background and experience
  • Passion for structured working, attention to detail and documenting things well
  • Thirst for staying up to date on the latest and emerging Linux-based infrastructure, tools, products, patches and broader industry technologies, tools and techniques
  • Good collaboration and communication skills
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, delivery focused environment
  • Experience in supporting agile working environments that use scrum / lean work practices
  • Fluency in English (spoken and written)

 

Great if you have

  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Computer Science or a related discipline
  • Good experience in administering systems in fintech or an analogous regulated industry
  • Good experience with configuration automation tools such as Ansible, Puppet, Salt, Chef
  • Experience of IPv4, Ipv6, VPN, IPSec, DNS
  • Relevant AWS certification
  • Experience in using key cloud infrastructure tools such as Terraform
  • Knowledge of containerisation tools such as Docker
  • Knowledge of other core infrastructure including:
    • Microsoft Server administration/ roubleshooting
    • Microsoft Active Directory, policies, DNS, DHCP, CA
    • Microsoft Exchange Server
    • PowerShell scripting
    • Citrix
  • Experience with iAM, MDM, UEM, MTM e.g. JAMF, Okta, OneLogin, Blackberry
